Court: School Grads in WI Church Crossed Line
posted on July 25, 2012On Monday, a federal appeals court ruled that a Wisconsin high school, which had been holding its graduation ceremonies in a church, violated the Constitution’s ban on government endorsement of religion, Todd Richmond reports for The Associated Press. Richmond writes that the court ruled “7-3 that symbols in the church, including a giant cross on the wall, conveyed a message that government was endorsing a particular religion.” The school’s attorney, Lori Lubinsky, may appeal to the Supreme Court. “Given the conflict in judicial opinions and given the significance of the decision and the impact on schools nationwide, this case should be reviewed by the highest court in the land,” says Lubinsky.
