Congress Plants “Anne Frank” Sapling at U.S. Capitol

Lauren Markoe of Religion News Service reports on the planting of a white horse chestnut tree sapling at the U.S. Capitol, a sapling that was an offshoot of the very tree that Anne Frank spoke fondly of in her diary. About the tree, she wrote, “As long as it exists, how can I be sad?” In a ceremony on Wednesday attended by prominent members of Congress, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) said, “May this tree grow to its full height, serene and bursting with life, planted in our nation’s capital.”
