China State Media Calls for Stern Action After Tiananmen Attack
posted on October 31, 2013Michael Martina of Reuters reports, “Chinese state media demanded severe punishment on Thursday to put down what China has said is a holy war aimed at Beijing by Islamist militants from the restive Xinjiang region.” However, some experts and human rights groups believe it would be difficult for the Muslim Uighur minority to organize the attack, which left five people dead in Tiananmen Square, because they are closely monitored by the government.
