posted on June 26, 2013R&P Board Member Melissa Harris-Perry of MSNBC discusses what can be done to protect voting rights after the Supreme Court’s decision to strike down part of the Voting Rights Act. “It is entirely consistent with our constitution to require states with pathetic track records to meet a higher standard of self-governance than those without those histories,” she writes. “So, what can we do?” She encourages voters to continue to vote, litigate, push for a constitutional amendment, and keep a watchful eye on the courts.
