Can Sexuality Be Changed?

In The Atlantic, Olga Khazan reports on a lawsuit filed in New Jersey, which questions whether conversion therapies to change one’s sexual orientation amount to consumer fraud. For the plaintiffs, the Southern Poverty Law Center argues, “People can’t become ex-gay, and making promises to the contrary is a false bill of goods.” However, the defendants assert, “Though most people remain gay or straight for life, sometimes, sexual preferences change.” So, “why should it be unlawful to try to help a person change it?”
