California Expands Availability of Abortionsposted on October 11, 2013
The New York Times’ David Lovett reports, “Gov. Jerry Brown on Wednesday expanded access to abortion in California, signing a bill to allow nurse practitioners, midwives and physician assistants to perform a common type of the procedure, an aspiration abortion, during the first trimester.” While many other states have tightened regulations, California has been the only state this year to expand access. “We are trending in a different direction, and we’re very proud of it,” said state assemblywoman Toni Atkins, author of the bill.
