C. Everett Koop, Anti-smoking Surgeon General Who Spoke Frankly on AIDS, Dies in NH at 96

Former Surgeon General C. Everett Koop died Feb. 25 at the age of 96, reports David Brown of The Washington Post. Koop was an evangelical Christian who was known for promoting the public discussion of AIDS and for being “a tireless campaigner against tobacco,” Brown writes. Friend and former Food and Drug Administration commissioner, David Kessler, said of Koop, “He really was America’s doctor.”
