Biden and Boehner, Teary and Grateful, Receive High Catholic Honor
posted on May 16, 2016Cathy Lynn Grossman of Religion News Service reports that Vice President Joe Biden and former Speaker of the House John Boehner received American Catholicism’s highest honor from the University of Notre Dame on Sunday. Although the two sharply differ in their political stances, both called for unity through their faith, echoing the words of Pope Francis. “A good political leader is one who, with the interests of all in mind, seizes the moment in a spirit of openness and pragmatism,” the pontiff said in his September address to Congress.
