Benedict a Pope Aware of His Flaws

At CNN, Sister Mary Ann Walsh explains how Benedict XVI’s resignation “speaks realistically about humanity.” The Bible states that as one grows weaker, one also becomes stronger, a belief that Walsh considers to be emblematic of Benedict’s stepping down. Walsh writes, “We expect the pope to be perfect … In this world, however, walked a vulnerable, human person. And in a paradox of life, his most human moment — giving up the power of office — may prove to be his most potent, delivering a message that, as St. Paul noted many centuries ago, ‘Power is made perfect in infirmity.’”
