Before Bernie Sanders, There Was Zeidler, a Religious Socialist

In The New York Times, Samuel G. Freedman writes on the socialist and religious legacy of Frank Zeidler. While similar to Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders in his political views, Zeidler was a devout Lutheran who founded the Frank Zeidler Center for Public Discussion at his church in order to foster racial and political dialogue. “Essentially, what he said is that he was drawn to socialism because they believed in brotherhood and equality and getting things done through democratic cooperation,” said his daughter, Dr. Anita Zeidler. “It was all about fairness.”
