Arkansas Abortion Bill Vetoed by Governor Mike Beebe
posted on March 4, 2013Andrew DeMillo at the Associated Press reports that Democratic Arkansas Gov. Mike Beebe vetoed a ban on abortion at 20 weeks into pregnancy. The veto comes as Arkansas state lawmakers consider instituting stricter legislation that would prohibit abortion at 12 weeks into pregnancy. Citing Roe v. Wade in his veto letter, Beebe wrote, “Because it would impose a ban on a woman’s right to choose an elective, nontherapeutic abortion before viability, House Bill 1037, if it became law, would squarely contradict Supreme Court precedent.”
