America’s Catholic Moment, and Its New Breed of Catholic Politicians

At The Daily Beast, Michael Sean Winters writes on American Catholics’ political moment. Despite the all-time high Catholic influence within the government, Winters notes, “The tenets of the Catholic faith do not easily translate into the idioms of contemporary politics, so Catholic politicians find themselves invoking their faith on some issues but trying to explain it away on others.” He continues, “Politically, a person who is 100 percent consistent with the Church’s teachings is likely to find himself politically homeless.”
