Acceptance Grows, Slowly But Steadily, For Gay Evangelicals

At NPR, Tom Gjelten and Marisa Peñaloza report that gay Christians are slowly being accepted by some evangelicals after decades of condemnation. While evangelicals largely consider homosexuality to be immoral, an increasing number believe that LGBT people should be accepted into society and have the right to marry. “I see the Holy Spirit working in these people’s lives,” said Pastor Matt Johnson, who is a Baptist minister. “Who am I to say that they are not Christians or that they are somehow lost or wrong? I don’t feel like my faith is nearly as strong as theirs. I’m challenged and humbled by them.”
