89-Year-Old Philly Man Charged With “Complicity in Murder” of 216,000 Jews at Auschwitz
posted on June 20, 2014In The Washington Post, Terrence McCoy reports on the arrest on Tuesday of Johann “Hans” Breyer, who has been charged with 158 counts of “complicity in the commission of murder” for working as a guard at Auschwitz. While Breyer admits that he worked at the camp, he claims that he did not kill anybody or even know what was happening there. “He is charged with aiding and abetting those deaths,” Assistant U.S. Attorney Andrea Foulkes said. “Proof doesn’t require him to have personally pulled any levers. His guarding made it possible for those killings to happen.”
