For President Joe Biden, An Inauguration Filled with Faith

Religion News Service’s Jack Jenkins reports that President Joe Biden had a faith-filled Inauguration Day, from a morning church service at St. Matthew’s Cathedral to the prayers offered at his swearing-in. “After Biden placed his hand on his family’s 127-year-old Bible a few minutes later and took the oath of office, it was the newly minted president’s turn to speak — or, perhaps more accurately, preach: He launched into a speech that was characteristically filled with religious references and appeals to the divine,” Jenkins writes. Biden spoke of the soul and quoted St. Augustine, as well as the biblical verse that “weeping may endure for the night, but joy cometh in the morning.”
