Pope Francis May Find Wariness Among U.S. Bishops on Climate Change

In The New York Times, Laurie Goodstein examines the hesitation that many American Catholic leaders feel over the church involving itself in climate change. Bishops worry about siding with liberals, whose views on abortion and contraception they oppose. “Their wariness is one of many signs of the challenges Pope Francis faces with American Catholic leaders, who are more cautious and politically conservative than he seems to be on certain issues,” Goodstein writes.
