Catholic Bishops Reject New Contraception Proposals
posted on February 11, 2013The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops rejected the Obama administration’s recent proposal to broaden exemptions for religious organizations to provide contraceptive coverage, reports David Gibson of Religion News Service. Cardinal Timothy Dolan, president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, believes that the proposal does not address all of the organization’s concerns. In a statement, he said, “Throughout the past year, we have been assured by the Administration that we will not have to refer, pay for, or negotiate for the mandated coverage. We remain eager for the Administration to fulfill that pledge and to find acceptable solutions – we will affirm any genuine progress that is made, and we will redouble our efforts to overcome obstacles or setbacks.”
