In The Atlantic, Emma Green writes on the complications that prison chaplains like Kelly Raths face in offering religious space and support for inmates. For Raths, one of the most prominent challenges in ministering to prisoners is setting boundaries between what is appropriate for a religious leader and what is appropriate for a prison worker. “Talking with people about intimate questions of faith can make it easy to slip past the specific, firm boundaries of prison relationships,” Green writes.
