Pope’s Climate Push at Odds with U.S. Catholic Oil Investments

Reuters’ Richard Valdmanis reports on the discrepancy between Pope Francis’ message on combatting climate change and Catholic organizations in America, some of which have invested millions of dollars in energy companies. “The American church remains a deeply conservative organization led mainly by bishops appointed by Francis’ predecessors,” Valdmanis writes. Though some groups of progressive Catholic nuns and priests are “urging energy companies to make their operations more socially responsible,” their dioceses are resisting that push.
