Iran Nuclear Deal Reached, Next Hurdle Is Congress

In The New York Times, David E. Sanger and Michael R. Gordon report that Iran, the U.S., and five other nations reached an agreement on Tuesday to limit Tehran’s nuclear capability in exchange for lifting financial sanctions that have crippled the Iranian economy. Announcing the deal, President Obama “began what promised to be an arduous effort to sell the deal to Congress and the American public, saying the agreement is ‘not built on trust – it is built on verification.’” However, critics of the deal warn that it will “ultimately empower Iran rather than limit its capability,” Sanger and Gordon write.
