Court Upholds Sikh’s Right to Facial Hair, Turban in ROTC

Religion News Service’s Kimberly Winston reports on a federal court decision regarding Iknoor Singh, a Sikh student who could not join his university’s ROTC program because his hair, beard, and turban violated the U.S. Army’s uniform regulations. The court ruled that the “Army has made so many exceptions for secular grooming issues … that it had to make an exception here to comply with the Religious Freedom Restoration Act.”
