High Court Sides with Government on Spousal Visa Denial

NPR’s Nina Totenberg reports that the Supreme Court upheld the government’s right to deny a visa to the spouse of an American citizen without a detailed explanation. Fauzia Din, whose husband was refused a visa for alleged “terrorist activities,” argued that “due process of law bars the government from separating an American citizen from his or her spouse without further explanation for the spouse’s exclusion,” Totenberg writes. The justices ruled it sufficient to cite a law forbidding visas to those involved in terrorist activities.
