Abuse Victims: The Pope Is Listening

In Crux, Inés San Martín discusses the new Vatican court that Pope Francis created on Wednesday, which will hold Catholic bishops accountable for how they handle complaints of clerical sexual abuse. “Creation of the new tribunal was proposed by the Pontifical Commission for the Protection of Minors, a body headed by Boston Cardinal Sean P. O’Malley,” San Martín writes. In a statement, the commission said “it was focusing on accountability ‘for everyone in the Church – clergy, religious, and laity – who work with minors.’”
