To Love and to Cherish

In Texas Monthly, Pamela Colloff profiles Cleopatra De Leon and Nicole Dimetman, who sued the state of Texas over its same-sex marriage ban in 2013. De Leon v. Perry has advanced to their circuit Court of Appeals, which is one level below the Supreme Court, which will hear marriage cases from other states this spring. “Depending on what these courts decide, Texas may be forced—over the objections of the governor, the attorney general, and much of the Legislature—to join the 37 states in which same-sex marriage is now legal,” Colloff writes. “If that happens, Texas will undergo the single most transformative cultural shift in recent memory.”
