What the “Mormon Moment” Actually Accomplished

Kristine Haglund, editor of Dialogue: a Journal of Mormon Thought, discusses “‘The Mormon Moment,'” that recent stretch when, thanks largely to the presidential campaigns of Mitt Romney, Mormonism was in the news on a daily basis.” Though that moment is now over, outside attention has impacted Mormon culture. Haglund writes, “Even as Mormons recognize their continued, unwilling exile from [an idealized] America, we are affirming those ideals by learning, haltingly, to cope with our own messy history and to tolerate, albeit imperfectly, difference and dissent within the faith.”
