Churches Urge Healing, but Also Activism, After Stormy Week in Ferguson

For The New York Times, Monica Davey, Mitch Smith and John Eligon report on churches in the St. Louis area urging not just healing from parishioners, but continued questioning of Mike Brown’s death. “As Christians, our church encourages us to be engaged in the life of the city, the life of our community,” Reverend Shaun Ellison Jones of St. Louis said. Many members of the clergy have been active in protests since Brown’s death, encouraging nonviolent demonstration instead of looting and rioting.
