Steven Sotloff, U.S. Hostage Slain By ISIS, Was Also A Citizen of Israel

The New York Times’ Isabel Kershner reports that American journalist Steven Sotloff, who was executed by ISIS, was Jewish and held Israeli citizenship. Sotloff contributed to several Israeli publications and lived in the country from 2005 to 2008. After his kidnapping, Sotloff’s family and friends remained quiet on the issue, fearing his immediate safety. Matthew Kalman, former editor of The Jerusalem Report said, “[W]e took a collective vow of silence, fearing that his kidnappers might seize on that fascinating personal history as an excuse to kill him.”
