Preachers Call for Compassion in Dealing with Immigrant Surge

On NPR, Michel Martin speaks with Russell Moore, president of the Southern Baptist Convention’s Ethics and Religious Liberties Commission, and Rudy Rasmus, senior pastor at St. John’s Downtown in Houston, on how faith organizations are reacting to the surge of unaccompanied minors illegally crossing the U.S.-Mexico border. “There are groups and Christians and churches who are ministering as best they can,” Moore says, “but until the government comes in and takes responsibility for the government’s own failed policies here, there’s a limit on what we can do.”
