Faith Groups Seek Exclusion from Bias Rule

“After a setback in the Supreme Court in the Hobby Lobby case, President Obama is facing mounting pressure from religious groups demanding to be excluded from his long-promised executive order that would bar discrimination against gay men and lesbians by companies that do government work,”Julie Hirschfeld Davis and Erik Eckholm write in The New York Times. A competing movement of liberal faith leaders is urging President Obama to issue an anti-bias order with no new religious exemptions. The dual demands complicate Obama’s next move, the authors report, as he has made promises to supporters on both sides.
