Hitchens, Dawkins and Harris Are Old News: A Totally Different Atheism Is on the Rise

At AlterNet, Chris Hall writes about the increasing diversity within the organized atheist movement. While many of atheism’s well-known faces—Christopher Hitchens, Richard Dawkins, and Sam Harris—are still white men, “an increasing number of the most passionate voices bringing new people into the movement are people of color, women, transgendered, or queer,” Hall writes. He notes Hitchens is dead and in 2014, “using Dawkins or Harris to make a case for or against atheism is about as relevant as writing about how Nirvana and Public Enemy are going to change pop music forever.”
