Interfaith Panel Denounces a 9/11 Museum Exhibit’s Portrayal of Islam

Sharon Otterman of The New York Times discusses “The Rise of Al Qaeda”, a brief film that will be screened at the soon-to-open National September 11 Memorial Museum. An interfaith advisory group of clergy members has taken strong exception to the film and have asked for changes. Dr. Akbar Ahmed, chair of Islamic Studies at American University, said, “The terrorists need to be condemned and remembered for what they did. But when you associate their religion with what they did, then you are automatically including, by association, one and a half billion people who had nothing to do with these actions.”
