Elizabeth Dias of TIME interviews the Dalai Lama, in anticipation of his upcoming two-week tour of the United States west coast. Topics ranged from Tibetan freedom, to climate change, to the relationship between China and India. When discussing human rights issues, he said, “Because of lack of moral principle, human life becomes worthless. Moral principle, truthfulness, is a key factor. If we lose that, then there is no future.”
