A Botched Operation

At The New Yorker, Eyal Press profiles the tainted career of Doctor Steven Brigham, a graduate from Columbia University’s medical school and controversial abortion provider who continually violates state regulations despite having had multiple licenses suspended. “The right-to-lifers called me the pawn-shop abortion doctor,” Brigham told Press in an interview. “The implication was clear,” adds Press, “the zealotry of the religious right was responsible for his troubles.”
