South Sudan President Ready to Talk as Clashes Spread

At Reuters, Andrew Green reports on the South Sudan president’s announcement that he would begin dialogue with his political rival accused of staging a coup. President Salva Kiir has blamed his former vice president, Riek Machar, for provoking clashes in Juba that have killed up to 500 people. While calling for dialogue, Gerard Araud, current president of the UN Security Council, said, “The two main ethnic groups the Dinka and the Nuer could go into a full fledged civil war in the country.”
