Signed and Sealed: Illinois 16th State to Legalize Gay Marriage

Monique Garcia of The Chicago Tribune reports, “Gov. Pat Quinn on Wednesday put his signature on a historic measure making Illinois the 16th state to allow same-sex marriage.” While Illinois is the most recent state to ride the growing wave of support for gay rights, it is still far from a universal movement. Catholic Bishop Thomas Paprocki spoke to a gathering crowd protesting the governor’s decision, saying, “It is not the church that must change to confirm its teachings to the views of the world, but it is each individual who is called to be configured to Christ.”
