Religion at Work: State High Court to Weigh In

Lornet Turnbull of The Seattle Times reports that Washington’s State Supreme Court is set to weigh in on the religious obligations of employers to their employees. While it is clearly illegal to hire or fire someone based on their creed, the lawsuit raises the question of whether a company must change its policies to accommodate religious beliefs. “The primary legal issue in this appeal is an important matter of civil rights that helps define Washington state as either with the mainstream in protecting civil rights and respecting religion, or a fringe haven for intolerance,” said attorney Aaron Rocke.
