Obama Speech on Striking Syria to Sparks Little Global Reaction; Kerry, Lavrov Prepare to Meet

Karen DeYoung, Debbi Wilgoren, and Colum Lynch of The Washington Post report on the international community’s reaction to President Obama’s speech on Syria given yesterday. On Thursday, Secretary of State John Kerry will meet with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov to discuss ways in which to destroy Syria’s chemical weapons, at Russia’s proposal. However, the authors note, “Lavrov and President Putin just as quickly rejected a French proposal for a U.N. Security Council resolution to establish a legally binding chemical inspection regime, backed by the authorization of force if Syria did not comply.”
