Fresh Myanmar Clashes Signal Growing Muslim Desperation

Marshall of Reuters reports, “Attempts to bring stability to Myanmar’s strategic northwest Rakhine State could be unraveling after police opened fire on Rohingya Muslims for the third time in two months.” Activists say the violence is caused by apartheid-like policies enacted against Muslims in the Buddhist-majority country, several of which have been deemed violations of human rights by the United Nations. “People have no trust in the police anymore,” said Aung Win, a well-known Rohingya activist. “They want the police out of their areas and the military there instead.”
