Embassy Personnel Evacuated From Yemen; Americans Urged To Leave

The Washington Post’s Sudarsan Raghavan and Craig M. Whitlock report, “The State Department on Tuesday ordered the evacuation of much of the U.S. Embassy in Yemen and urged all Americans to leave the country following an al-Qaeda threat.” An undisclosed number of American military personnel will remain in Yemen to monitor any potential threats to the embassy. Other embassies in the region are closed until Saturday. “The highly unusual shutdowns were a result of intercepted communication between al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri and Nasir al-Wuhayshi, the leader of al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), the terrorist network’s Yemen branch,” Raghavan and Whitlock write.
