Midnight Weddings as Two U.S. States Legalize Gay Marriage

Todd Melby of Reuters reports that same-sex couples celebrated with midnight weddings as Minnesota and Rhode Island became the 12th and 13th states to sanction gay marriage on Thursday. Margret Miles and Cathy ten Broeke, who were married at midnight by Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak, said the legalization of same-sex marriage would help end a stigma for them. Recently, a child told the couple’s young son that he couldn’t have two mothers. “No one can say that anymore,” says Miles.
