The Economist discusses the failing blend of religion and politics for Islamists in the Middle East. In Egypt and Syria, Islamist regimes have fallen to the will of the people who are uncomfortable with those who claim the right to interpret and enforce the will of God. “Perhaps that is why, amid the seemingly inexorable rise of Islam as a political rallying force and amid increasingly strident assertions of sectarian identity, doubts are also growing.”
