Janet Folger Porter, Abortion Warrior, On Her Heartbeat Crusade
Michelle Cottle of The Daily Beast profile Janet Folger Porter and her fight against abortion. Folger is a “former legislative director of Ohio Right to Life,” who Cottle dubs “the godmother of the heartbeat movement,” which seeks to outlaw abortion after a fetal heartbeat can be detected, usually around the 12th week of pregnancy. Heartbeat bills are gaining traction around the country and “conservative pols from Rick Perry to Rick Santorum and Michele Bachmann to Newt Gingrich are lining up in support of such efforts.” Cottle writes, “If you have strong feelings—in either direction—about the growing push to stop tinkering around the edges of abortion law and start banning the procedure en masse, Porter is a gal you really should get to know.”
