Charlotte Observer Religion Reporter Arrested In Raleigh Protest

Mark Washburn of The News & Observer reports that Charlotte Observer reporter Tim Funk was arrested in Raleigh on Monday “while covering the Charlotte clergy involved in the legislative protests.” The protests started over cuts to various social welfare programs in North Carolina, and have included many clergy members. “We believe there was no reason to detain him,” said Cheryl Carpenter, the Charlotte Observer managing editor. “He wasn’t there to do anything but report the story, to talk to Charlotte clergy. He was doing his job in a public place.”
