Is Concern over the Rise of the “Nones” Overblown?

With the recent release of a Gallup poll indicating only a small increase of religious “nones” in 2012, Ruth Moon of Christianity Today compiles expert opinions on the subject. Christian Smith, a sociologist at the University of Notre Dame, believes that the plateau demonstrates the actual state of religion in the United States: “It is not a true sea change from seriously religious to unbelieving. It might actually helpfully clarify where people really stand.”
