Phoenix Schools Under Fire for Program Linked to Scientology

Peter O’Dowd of NPR considers the implementation of “Applied Scholastics,” a teaching tool based on the work of Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard, in a group of Phoenix charter schools. Many believe that the purpose of the program, which was implemented without the knowledge of students or parents, is to promote the Church of Scientology. Describing the curriculum, teacher Katie Donahoe said, “These are not education experts. These are Scientology spokespeople.”
