States are Cracking Down on Abortion – and Legalizing Gay Marriage. What Gives?

Sarah Kliff of The Washington Post looks at the divergent paths of the anti-abortion and gay rights movements. While the two issues used to be closely related, support for gay rights has increased dramatically, while abortion remains divisive. Citing recent polls from Public Religion Research Institute, Kliff links this shift to a generation gap: “Younger Americans have become increasingly supportive of gay marriage in a way that hasn’t necessarily happened for abortion rights. Young Americans’ views on same-sex unions look nothing like previous generations. But when it comes to abortion rights, Millennials look a lot more like their parents.”
