Pope Francis Marks Start to Papacy with Inaugural Mass

At USA Today, Eric J. Lyman reports from Vatican City on Pope Francis’ inauguration, where anĀ “estimated 200,000 people stood by” as he took the throne of St. Peter. Lyman writes, “Among the more than 130 national delegations attending the Mass were U.S. Vice President Biden, and at least 31 heads of state.” He continues, “On Monday, Fernandez de Kirchner became the first foreign head of state to be received by the new pope. The two have had a sometimes prickly relationship in the past over issues such as her support of gay marriage and adoption of children to gay couples.”
