What the Mullahs are Mulling
Andrew Finkel of The New York Times considers the importance of the “Islamic Cooperation for a Peaceful Future in Afghanistan,” an Islamic conference meeting this week about Afghanistan. The conference, which is trying to “stop Afghans from fighting Afghans,” has provided a voice for Muslims who denounce violence. “The recourse to violence in Afghanistan had no religious justification, speaker after speaker said,” writes Finkel, “Or, in the words of the final declaration, ‘A crime committed in the name of Islam is a crime against Islam.’”
