House Considers Rising Anti-Semitism in Europe, Middle East

Lauren Markoe of Religion News Service examines a reported recent uptick in global anti-Semitism, and how Congress is responding. A House of Representatives hearing on Wednesday addressed the issue, urging political leaders to report and combat anti-Semitism. Rep. Chris Smith, R-N.J., who convened the hearing, said, “Unparalleled since the dark ages of the Second World War, Jewish communities on a global scale are facing verbal harassment, and sometimes violent attacks against synagogues, Jewish cultural sites, cemeteries and individuals.”
