UK Cardinal Skips Conclave Amid Priest Accusations

At the Associated Press, Nicole Winfield and Gregory Katz report Britain’s highest-ranking Catholic leader, Cardinal Keith O’Brien, has resigned and recused himself from the conclave to select Pope Benedict XVI’s successor. The resignation comes after “three priests and a former priest had filed complaints to the Vatican alleging that the cardinal acted inappropriately with them.” In addition, Katz and Winfield write that Benedict has changed the conclave rules, “allowing cardinals to move up the start date if all of them arrive in Rome before the usual 15-day waiting period.”
